CONTACTS:  George 593-3357 OPENING DAY CEREMONIES START AT 11:30 ATHENS SANDLOT FIELDS - WEST END PARK Thank you for participating in the Annual Athens Sandlot Opening Day Parade!   The parade participants are Athens Sandlot registered players and others by Board invite only.  Others who wish to attend must make application.   Fees may apply.     If you wish to participate please download and complete this application and submit your fee. Your application will be reviewed by the parade committee and you will be notified accordingly (Sandlot reserves the right toremove anyone not in compliance and for any reason).    GENERAL INFORMATION PARADE VEHICLES LINE UP ON MORRIS AVE. FACING E. STATE STREET. Vehicles should start lining up  from 8:30-9:00 a.m so that children have time to find their team’s vehicle by 9:30.  Each team provides a vehicle(s) and/or float.   Vehicles are asked to have their team and sponsor represented with a poster or sign on the vehicle. Parade starts at 10:00 a.m.  THIS IS A FUN - VOLUNTARY EVENT.  PLAYERS AND OTHERS PARTICIPATE AT THEIR OWN RISK.  PLAYERS MUST STAY ON FLOATS, IN VEHICLES, OR WALK.  DO NOT GET IN OR OUT OF MOVING VEHICLES. DO NOT THROW CANDY FROM VEHICLES.  CANDY CAN BE HANDED OUT BY PEOPLE WALKING. FLOATS MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE ADULT WITH PLAYERS FOR EACH FLOAT. PARADE DRIVERS NEED TO KEEP GAPS BETWEEN VEHICLES CLOSE ENOUGH THAT VEHICLES ON E.STATE STREET DO NOT CUT THROUGH. DROPPING OFF PLAYERS TRAFFIC FLOW: Traffic is being directed up Morris towards E. State Street which will be one way during this time.  This is important as Fire Trucks will be present and may need to leave up Morris Ave if called to an emergency.      DON'Ts   DON'T TURN FROM EAST STATE ONTO MORRIS AVE - YOU WILL STOP TRAFFIC!                    Parade is lining up on Morris Ave. facing E. State Street - Drive this way to drop your player off to keep traffic moving.   DON'T PARK ON MORRIS AVENUE FACING EAST STATE STREET               Parade vehicles will be lining up. Suggestions for parking are Sunnyside, Elmwood, or S. May Ave.       DO  DROP OFF PLAYERS OR LINE UP VEHICLES BY DRIVING DOWN S. From EAST STATE Street turn onto SOUTH MAY AVE (BY SUPERAMERICA GAS STATION) Turn RIGHT onto MORRIS AVE.     STARTS LINE UP ON MORRIS AVENUE  AT JAGERS FUNERAL HOME  (KEEP DRIVEWAY CLEAR) 8u STARTS AT JAGERS FUNERAL HOME 10u STARTS ON MORRIS PAST  CAMBELL AVE 12U STARTS ON MORRIS BETWEEN CAMBELL AND S. SHANNON JR HIGH STARTS AT S. SHANNON If MORRIS becomes full parade vehicles continue the line up S. MAY AVE.   GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAMS – Parade Vehicles Line up Wallace Avenue  (East Elementary) facing Morris Ave FROM EAST STATE Street turn onto SHANNON Ave (across from Premiere Video - one block from SA gas station - fire station on corner) and Turn  RIGHT onto MAPLEWOOD. Go to end of street and Turn LEFT onto WALLACE.   Start lining up at the stop sign on right side of  WALLACE  facing Morris Ave  If Wallace becomes full, begin lining cars on MAPLEWOOD. STARTS LINE UP ON WALLACE STARTING AT STOP SIGN OF WALLACE  AVE AND MORRIS   6,7,8,9 DIVISION STARTS ON WALLACE AT CORNER OF WALLACE AND MORRIS 10,11,12 STARTS HALFWAY UP WALLACE JR HIGH LINES UP AT END OF WALLACE ADDITIONAL LINE UP AREA Additional vehicles may lineup on Ohio Ave. which is the first street running parallel to Morris Ave.   Line up will start on the right side of Ohio Ave facing Wallace Dr. (the street running in front of East Elementary School).   EMERGENCY VEHICLES Fire Trucks/EMS/DARE may use Morris Ave to line up, in any order, behind any vehicle upon arrival.   MARCHING BANDS You can't have an official parade without a band! The Alexander High School Marching Band places at Jager’s Funeral Home. Other bands should be far enough back so their music is not competing with the first band.      Band members will be one of the first few groups.  When the Band  and anyone else walking reaches the end of the parade, at S. Court and Union, go onto the College Green or onto the sidewalk so the police can get help vehicles get through on Union. OTHER VEHICLES Show/Classic Cars, tractors, and other vehicles can line up on any of the above streets upon arrival behind any team participant.   PARADE VEHICLES Please be considerate and do not block driveways.  If you do wait in front of a driveway, do not leave your vehicle unattended. Resident's cars may be parked on the street not involved in the parade.  Most move their cars but some may be present.  Leave adequate space between vehicles.   This is a kids parade, so please drive slowly and carefully in this area. Watch for children as they will be running around before the parade starts.  Children remain seated in vehicles during the parade until reaching the ball fields or other destination of your choice.   PARADE ROUTE Currently, the parade will start on Morris Ave: Turn left on  E. State Street Turn right on Carpenter Street Turn left on Court Street Turn right onto W. Union and officially end at W. Union and N. Congress. PARADE officially ends here! If you decide to go onto the fields proceed slowly and at your own risk. Note that  police may have to divert us so be patient and follow the vehicles after reaching the college gate. We anticipate turning right onto Union which should be blocked off to oncoming traffic.  To get to the fields continue down W, UNION to the light (at Hungry Howies Pizza)  Turn RIGHT onto Schaffer.  At stop sign turn LEFT onto W. State Street  Proceed STRAIGHT to ball fields.  Drop off kids at Wrigley Field on right side empty field past porta-john. Continue around circle, and then exit or park. DO NOT PULL INTO Fenway parking area.  You will back up traffic FOREVER! Alternative Parking - turn right in front of  Dalton Field on dirt path and park ENJOY THE PARADE!
