2005 ATHENS ALL STAR TEAM

8 AND UNDER DIVISION

 

 

The Athens Sandlot 8 and Under All Star team recently concluded its All Star season, taking first place in the "A" bracket at Vienna, West Virginia with a come from behind 10-7 victory against Worthington in the championship game.

The team competed in 5 All Star tournaments, playing against teams throughout South Eastern Ohio, West Virginia and Columbus.  The team placed first in every tournament entered, compiling a record of 29-1.  Over the course of the season, Athens outscored its opponents by a combined score of 451-142.

 

Athens started the year by winning the Athens Sandlot tournament in a field of 8 teams, capped by recording a 15-0 shutout in the championship game.  The following tournament Athens avenged their only loss of the year to host team New Lexington by defeating them twice to win their tournament.  From there Athens finished first among 17 teams in Baltimore, from a field of Columbus suburb teams, winning by a combined score of 77-21.  Athens then won another Columbus area tournament in Amanda, among a field of 14 teams.The team was comprised of 9 eight year old and 3 seven year old players that played in the Athens Sandlot baseball league.  Since this was the first year that the Athens Sandlot league had an 8 year old division, 9 of the participants on this team played together as an independent team in 2004.  In 2004, all of the players were 6 and 7 years old, competing against the best 8 year old teams in Southern Ohio and West Virginia, posting a record of 15-18.

The team was comprised of 9 eight year old and 3 seven year old players that played in the Athens Sandlot baseball league.  Since this was the first year that the Athens Sandlot league had an 8 year old division, 9 of the participants on this team played together as an independent team in 2004.  In 2004, all of the players were 6 and 7 years old, competing against the best 8 year old teams in Southern Ohio and West Virginia, posting a record of 15-18.
